I have been getting 28-35 eggs per day for a couple of months. I have 48 hens. Lately the number has dropped to 8-15 eggs per day. I suspected it was the cold weather which was the reason for the lesser production. However, the weather has warmed up and no increase. I also was suspicious of egg eating. I recently caught one of the hens in the act. I have to constantly clean the nest boxes because the become wet and sticky with what seems to be a clear substance. I am now of the opinion that my eggs are being eaten by one or more of the hens. I work days and get home in the evening, so I don't have much time to watch the laying process. Any suggestions on how to curb the egg eating habit. I am in the process of building a much larger coop and run, but am not sure if it will solve the problem. I am also considering building nest boxes in which the eggs can roll out of reach of the hens in the new structure. All suggestions welcome. Thanks!

Yup, rollaway nest boxes are your best bet. You could try a bunch of golf balls in the nests, hoping to discourage them, but it seems little helps besides removing the eggs, from what I've read.
