I had a hen abandon a nest a few weeks ago -- we had a very nasty storm and she totally freaked out. I found the eggs totally cold the next day but decided to plunk them in an incubator just in case. I just candled & all 15 look to be alive. I put them in the 'bator on the 5th so we're 10 days in and they look like they're 10 days in (squirming about!) BUT the veining isn't as extensive or pronounced as the eggs I incubate from the get go.

I'm wondering if this is a typical difference between nest vs incubator eggs or if I'm setting myself up for disappointment. Ideas?

Actually, now that I think about it, it's 10 days since I put them in the incubator but she'd been sitting for a couple of days. So really they are at least a little delayed in development.

The nest was in my breeding pen. I didn't stop her when she started to hide and hoard eggs so she had quite a nest going.... We had a bunch of tornadoes touch down around here one night and that was it. She was done.

Incubators have many proven successful hatches. If these aren't her first layed eggs, and you know how to hatch, then they should be fine!
