SWEDISH Duck Thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can someone tell me how to feather sex my blue and black swedish ducklings. Their feathers have just started coming in but I'm unsure of what to look for in males and females..

I don't know of a way to feather sex but if you get them between one and three days olds, the females will have pink bills and the males black. Other than that, females quack and males make a different sound but females are much louder.

I wish I would have known about the bills.. I did get them very young.. :)

They grow so fast that they will be quacking in no time.

Of my four Swedish blues one has brown feathers coming in on her head. And none have the white tipped wings. Two quack and two peep. They are eight weeks old. I'm so confused as to why my one has brown on her head. I got them from a local hatchery so I don't know the breeder. I would love to breed them myself but I'm not sure what to look for in breeding quality. My duckies don't have good bibs and two have dark green bills. Is this normal in growing chicks?

Just had a couple bring an Indian runner for a visit with my ducks. This little fellow was the cutest thing he followed them everywhere! They said he wears a duck diaper in the house. How cute is that

Weird! I have brooded 2 Pekins with non-Pekins including 2 Swedish and the Pekins were always obviously bigger.  And all my brooding has been done with Metzer ducks.

Delayed response life can get so hectic sometimes.

Here are some pics of my girls and you can see that the largest one is a Blue Swedish and a Pekin and that one of my pekins might be a runt because she is barely larger that my cayugas. Works for me though because it makes them easier to tell apart.

Even these pics are about a week old and I swear they are all bigger every time I look at them. They are even starting to make what I call "duck sounds" instead of just the peeps and squeaks.

You will definitely be able to tell the difference in their sounds very soon. If not, when they get fully grown, the male will get a curl on his tail. Google a male duck and look for it.

I noticed one quacks so quietly that you can't even hear it half the time. Could it be because he is a boy?

Most likely. They have a whispery kind of sound.
