Hello all, earlier today I purchased 4 "Swedish Ducks". Are these an actual breed? Are they good layers? One of them is blue (which he said is a bit rare) and one of them is chocolate (which he said is very rare). Is this true?

thankyou for any and all replies in advance :)

Hi!

Swedish are beautiful!

There are, to my limited knowledge, black Swedish and blue Swedish. On another thread someone thought they had chocolate Swedish and they turned out to be Khaki Campbells. But I hope someone with more experience confirms that.

Metzer's chart says they lay from 120 to 180 eggs per year and are good mothers.

If you can get photos uploaded that would be fun.

I will certainly get you some pictures up later today, I have khaki campbells so I feel pretty confident that my "chocolate swedish" is not a khaki. It pretty much looks like all of the others but it is chocolate colored.

Thankyou for your input!

Chocolate swedish are extraordinarily rare. I am not sure they actually exist, or if they are just cross-breeds. I hope you post pictures.

There are also silver and splash swedish. The silver ones are particularly beautiful, but not popular or well-known for some reason.

I was told that there is one drake and three hens... but they all look the same to me, any help?
Swedish ducks look mostly the same, male or female.

I can't tell from the picture- does any of them have a curly feather on their tail? Drakes get a curly feather on their tail but sometimes it falls off.

one of my 1st ducks were swedish, i got them from a feed store, not show quality but very pretty! i got 2 of them, they turned out to be both girls and i named them lydia a skipper. they were great free ranging the only thing i did not like was that they are loud, when i went out in the morning they were kind of talking , then i would say good morning duckies!! and they would start talking and wanting me to let them out of their coop, i also had a cayuga and a magpie a purchased with them and they all got along really fine,
