Just checking to see if anyone knows if Swedish flower hens are typically large as chicks.

We have one and she just seems so much bigger than the rest of the girls that are her age (about 2 weeks).

Her tail is exceptionally more developed than the rest of the babies too.

Not sure if she’s just a super big girl or if we already have to wonder if she is a rooster lol

I have no idea as I’ve never owned the breed. But I’d give it another 6 weeks to really compare growth/gender and breed
Thank you and for sure, I’m definitely waiting before I make any guesses about what she is! I just wanted to see if anybody knew if this was normal for these chicks to be this large!:)

Hi there fellow Swedish flower owner 🙂. I am currently raising my first Swedish flowers. I have three chicks and one of them was born much bigger, one I was very tiny, and one average. They are now 3 weeks old and have changed a lot in their coloring . The bigger one does seem to have a bigger comb straight from birth too so I’m concerned it could be a rooster, but I’ll have to wait and see because there is no pink in it at all and her tail feathers are squared like the others so it could also be female, just a big girl. Haha. Here’s some pics from baby chicks to now... if interested.

Do you have an update on you SFH? I only had 1 out of 2 hatch (they were just for fun eggs I threw in) and she is much bigger than the Legbars she hatched with. Her comb however is much smaller than the Legbar cockerels. And she has much longer tail feathers than everyone else too. I’m really hoping she is a girl since she is my only one.

Well, out of my three chicks, one was much larger . And yes.. he turned out to be a rooster. The other two are hens. Now ready to lay eggs. They are all sweet. The rooster is very sweet as well. I previously had posted pictures of them as chicks, here’s what they look like now.

They are so pretty! I only have one so it’s hard to compare her to anything. She’s so pretty I’m really hoping she is a she lol.
