As much as I'd like to, I really don't have the time to read throug 509 posts to find an answer. I've searched the thread for "crowing sound," but all I've found so far is that they start to crow fairly young and that it sounds like a pitiful 13-year-old boy whose voice is changing. Well, is there any better description of an adult swedish's crow? Volume, sound, frequency, peristence, etc. I'm really wanting to get swedish and let them raise their eggs, but only if the roos aren't very loud/frequent crowers, as the neighbor's neurotic dog, whom I do dearly love (the dog AND the neighbors), will go nutso barking and give himself an aneurism if he hears roosters out in the back. As it is, I'm locating the hen house on the opposite side of our house from their house, and as out of sight (from their deck/backyard) as I can, so I don't drive their poor dog (and them) bonkers. If swedish roos are quite loud and/or frequent crowers, I'll probably stick with ginger queen, marans, and easter eggers (or cream legbars if I can get them).

So, anyone who can describe or have a video link to a swedish roo crowing?

My boy Stan has the most melodic low crow. Sounds almost like singing. I love it! Much better than those dang bantams! He doesn't crow very often either - unless a bunch of my other ones set him off. He is close to what my Splash Copper Marans sounds like when he crows... the Marans also has a low crow, as does my Isbar Rooster. The girls are also relatively quiet and don't seem to have to announce every time they lay an egg.. like my Easter Eggers do...

He is much quieter than my Easter Eggers - and you do NOT want to get the Creme Legbar Roosters - their crows are very loud, very frequent and can travel up to 2 miles so I have heard.

Maybe it's because I have three. Mine crow early and often. All through the day. LOUDLY!

The last time DH took excess roos in to be processed, some guy there offered him $40 for one of our SFH roos because he crowed so loudly. He wanted him to annoy his neighbors.

Well, good news on my broody/lockdown problem. I candled eggs before we left the other night. We had to be gone for 2 days. When we got home. The 2 eggs that I took out of the turner and put in a separate spot in the incubator they were pipped! Then I started freaking out cause my humidiy was only at 29%, so I added a little water and within a few hours they were both out. These are 1/2 SFH 1/2 Misc since all my girls run together right now. Then this morning I woke up and there was one that hatched that was in the egg turner! Ooops! So far I've had 3 hatch. Then I go to check on the Co-Parents in the coop and there's a little face poking out. Soooo, excited! I put one of the babies that hatched in the bator under my co-parents and they seemed to accept him. It took a min, but he was up in her feathers when I left. Now I just gotta figure out what to do with them all. I wasn't prepared for babies yet this spring since we were building them a new coop and moving everyone to the backside of the new house. Dang, guess they just weren't on the same schedule I was.

They are all different, but if you don't want to have to deal with rooster noise, don't get a rooster... of any breed. I have a young one right now that sounds like a kids party noise maker... funniest thing you've ever heard. It's pretty quiet... for now. I don't expect it to stay so goofy or so quiet for much longer.
