Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Hi, everyone. I posted on this thread almost a month ago, trying to figure out if one of my SFH's is a pullet or cockerel. Well, I'm checking in again for your updated opinions. Both of my SFH's are now almost 4-months old. Clearly, the one in the foreground, "Olaf," is a cockerel. How about the one in the background, "Anna"? Since I posted several weeks ago, "she" has started to stand up a bit taller, her wattles are just a wee bit bigger, and she has sprouted longer tail feathers that hang down. However, Anna is much smaller than Olaf, much less colorful, and has much smaller comb, wattles, and tail. Anna also tends to hide behind Olaf. Thoughts?

sorry but i'll vote roo on both of them...

If both are cockerels, is there any thought on which would be better to keep for breeding?
Well, if you are in the camp that doesn't breed crested to crested, keep the non-crested roo, as long as there is nothing that would make him a poor choice - i.e. curled toes, split wing, mean disposition, etc. That way, you can keep both crested and non-crested hens and are not limiting your choices there. Otherwise, let them both grow out a bit and evaluate which one has better traits for breeding (lack of above traits plus good flock leader, etc.) and which one you like the best.

3 Weeks Now...

This little brown kiddo has eyes that are shaped very different from the blacks. They almost remind me of reptile eyes.

They are velociraptor eyes!

I am not seeing any overly large combs yet.
