Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Hello! I’m crashing in to ask a quick (or not so quick?) question about genetics: DD vs splash.

Are they the same? If they’re different, how does DD fit into the BBS picture?

I’m reading some thoughts that splash is always white with red but that further confuses me as other breeds splash coloring is white with blue/Black. Like splash orps, for example...

I’m just confused. If anyone can help me be less confused that would be great.

This is the chick that pushed me into this little bunny hole. She’s one of 8 that hatched from a blue x blue breeding. So naturally I thought splash but I’ve gotten DD comments and... my brain hurts now.

I would say wait and see. With this breed it is way to early to tell. Splash confuses me too. This is a DD ( double dilute).

My SFH chicks are 3 1/2 weeks old. I've had chickens before but this is my first time with chicks. It looks like I've got one crested (the fourth pic). It's the same chick in the back of the pic with two chicks. I have two more I didn't get pics of.

I am new to this forum. I have 5 8-week old chicks, one of which is a Swedish Flower Hen, Elsa. She is fascinating, and really very smart-the leader of the group. Her feathers are coming in with beautiful shades of pearl gray. I haven't seen many pictures of this coloring, but love it. My question is this: she has a very distinct voice, sort of a cross between a mourning dove and a goose. I can always tell Elsa because she greets me with a "Woo Hoo" whenever I come up to the pen-it is really very musical. Has anyone else ever noticed this with SFH? I always say it is her "Swedish accent!"
