Hey everyone, I'm experimenting with a new product for my Esty shop, a type of "moisturizer" for dry legs and/or beaks. I know it can happen in parrots as well, so I've been playing around with the idea. Anyway, I've used almond oil before for face scrubs, and I know its really great for your skin, does anyone know if sweet almond oil is a concern for poultry? All the articles/threads I've seen seem to be talking about essential oil, I'm talking about Aura Cacia sweet almond oil for skin care. Does anyone know if I can safely use this in my recipe? If not, I have other ingredients that I'm thinking about using, thanks for the help!
Heres a link to the product- https://www.amazon.com/Aura-Cacia-Nurturing-Almond-16-Ounce/dp/B000EQ1U8G

I think the tiny amount of sweet, would be negligible. If that small amount would somehow get eaten from a chickens legs. Chickens do not have a licking type activity ether. The oil would be absorbed into the tissue,,, softening the hard scales.
Experiment on your own chickens,, and observe,, but I think all you will find,,,, is soft scales, and shiny beaks. :thumbsup
As a comparison in performance use Vaseline on adjacent chicken to compare results. Many peeps use Vaseline to kill/control leg mites. I myself preferred to use margarine, or butter for same purpose.

WISHING YOU BEST........................... :highfive:

Thank you! This what my thinking as well, but I had to be certain. Perfect! I'm excited to add it into my mixture. :)
I saw a couple other threads that recommended Vaseline, I'm sure it works great. I use it on myself and don't have any complaints. I'll definitely use both and compare when I finish my mixture. Thanks for your help!
