hi all!
i've used d.e. inside the coop and out in the run in the past - not sure i'm going to order more right now though (too hard to find locally and too $$$ to order).
i'm looking at sweet pdz as a cheaper and easier-to-get alternative. i've DEFINITELY noticed an increase in odor since my de ran out - not ammonia odor, just chicken-y odor. i think mostly it's in their outside run - i sprinkle a small handful of scratch inside the coop last thing at night before i lock 'em up to give them something to do in the morning if i'm not out at first light to let them out of their house - they scratch ALOT of their shavings out the doorway during the day when they wander back inside to make sure they didn't miss one SINGLE speck of scratch in there.... it hasn't been cold, but it's been wet and i think the odor is coming from the damp shavings that are getting mixed into the dirt/sand in their run. so - if i use sweet pdz in the run (and coop), do you think that'll help keep it dried out enough to keep the chicken odor down? it's not me i'm worried about, really - i have neighbors who are happy with me and my chickens and i want to keep it that way! want to get a handle on it before it becomes an issue.
thanks in advance for any advice!
ETA: wasn't sure where to post this, coops (design and construction didn't seem right....) - decided on management since it's a "what works for you?" question... but mods please move if appropriate!
