Trying to decided on my first turkeys I thought I was set on bourbon reds then someone in my area messaged me about sweetgrass turkeys. I've never heard of them but did some quick research into them and really like the colors they are. Does anyone here have experience with them? Me being a first time turkey owner is there a certain variety that may be easier to care for or are they basically all alike.

They are all alike as far as temperment, size (give or take a few pounds), and production. So if I was you I would go off of color.

Ok sounds good I was hoping that would be the case. Knowing me ill end up with reds to eventually, like just getting 6 chickens 🙄

Sweetgrass are my favorite. Wish I could find some around here.
The guy that contacted me is around South Alabama I'm guessing. I had a ad on Craigslist looking for poults or eggs for several weeks. He just contacted me Thursday night through text message. He said he has eggs available right now and I think he said he had several variety available. He said their Facebook page is Twin Oaks Farms. I don't have Facebook so never looked it up. You might could message them and ask if they'll ship you some eggs or poults.

Thank you for that information. I’m not in any hurry though, so I will just wait until I find some local ones. I’m taking a break from turkeys, but if I saw local Sweetgrass for sale, I think my break would be over. 😂
