We just got khaki and rouen ducks and wondering how old they should be to start swimming in a baby pool? i think they are three days old now.

My littles started swimming in a cake pan in 90 degree F water - just a couple of inches deep.

Then we graduated to the bathtub, water up to our bellies.

Swim time was only about 5 or 10 minutes before ducklings started getting tired.

They did not swim in chilly water till they were fully feathered and the air temperature was above 70F.

Congrats! I've always wanted ducks, particularly Khaki Campbell, excellent layers (200 - 300 eggs per year!). Ducklings can drown or get hypothermia if they are allowed to swim to soon. So, don't let young waterfowl become excessively wet for the first three weeks of age. Good luck!

I used a plastic paint tray when my ducks were about 5 days old. The ramp made it really easy for them to get in and out. I would let them splash and bathe for 5 mins or so at first then pull the tray out and dry them off.
