In the Brooder
hey there gang,
One of our young Perkin bantams (Cochin) has started laying rubber eggs. They mostly come over night but this afternoon I saw her tucking into one she must have just laid there and then (i was too late to stop her). We got her around easter time at point of lay, from day one she was laying normal hard shelled eggs. We think she may have gone broody cus she had a spell of staying in the nesting box and getting pretty growly.
Otherwise she is fine in herself; eating, foraging and drinking fine. We have oyster shell constantly on offer in their pen. Just getting these rubbery eggs nearly every day. I suppose my questions are if anyone has experienced anything similar? Do they go from laying fine eggs to rubbery eggs then back again? And could it be linked to her little broody spell? She still insists on sleeping in the nesting box.
Thanks for anyone with any input
Steve
