Switched from crumble to pellets & they're refusing to eat

The place where I buy my pellets ran out and I was forced to get pellets from another source. The new food had a "molasses" type of strong odor and the pellets were much darker in color. My chickens did not eat it that well. I would suggest that the biggest reason your chickens are having trouble switching to pellets is because of the significant difference in smell and color. The pellets and crumble from the place where I normally buy my food are the same color and smell. I can go back and forth and my birds will take what ever I feed them.
