Switching Cats Over To Wet Food... Advice,Please.

Another way to help your cats drink more water is to get a recirculating water fountian for them. I got one last winter in attempt to get one of my cats who had CRF to drink more water. I've got 6 1/2 housecats and they consume much more water now than when they just had a bowl of water........they can't resist that running stream of water.

I do want to add that I agree with Sally F. & the Guru of Yap that Science Diet is a very good food. It's what we sell at our office & what I feed my indoor cats. It is more expensive & not everyone can afford it (I couldn't without my discount). Two of my cats have urinary tract issues & have to have Science Diet Prescription c/d food so they don't become blocked.

I'm going to respectfully disagree about Science Diet being a good food...

Read the label: It's made out of products and by products-they rarely name the specific ingredients in it. Vets push it because vets don't have much education in nutrition while in school; their main knowledge comes from what the SD reps teach them. I worked at a vet clinic as a tech for close to 5 years-and I wanted to die while sitting in the "lunch and learns" put on by Science Diet.

It's made with a bunch of grains and other 'junk' but use the "science" and what not to preach that it's the best food out there. It's not.

I can't find a cat food site, but check out www.dogfoodanalysis.com and read what it says about the SD dog foods and compare that to Taste of the Wild

I do not feed wet food at all. The occasionall tuna in oil for their coats and digestion. I have an automatic feeder and they have at least a gallon of water accessable at all times. If you want to up water consumption, water their dry food down and let it get soggy. They throw up undigested food either because they've eaten too fast or they have eaten too much. Give them a hairball treastment once a month since they can't get outside to eat grass, which will also make them vomit, which they need to do in order to get up any hair balls they might have.

Or you could feed BARF
