When exactly is the right time to switch chicks from starter feed to regular?

You can feed chicks anything except layer. (because of the calcium)
There is no one correct thing to do. Lots of different approaches. Starter/grower/flock raiser/ etc. They are all feed. They all work. Of course, they don't need medicated, but even that is OK up to point of lay.

When they lay you switch them to layer, or provide oyster shell with the chick feed (unmedicated when laying).
