I have 6 rir's and found my first egg this am. I am currently feeding them grower/layer kernels. I put some oyster shell in a jar chick feeder and set it in the coop. I guess they will eat what shell they need out of that set-up ok? Also, I can be a very over analytical person lol, so don't laugh too hard but I am trying to decide what to do next.
Everything that I've learned/researched so far, says that you shouldn't feed layer feed if you have birds that aren't laying. Ok, I understand that one. With some of em stopping for winter, others for moulting, and sometimes for various other reasons I was thinking maybe just keep them on what I'm doin now and not play that game of what to feed when lol. The oyster shell will give them what they need? Or is the moult, slow laying during winter, other stuff blah blah blah not a long enough period to hurt them and once they reach laying age and you find the first eggs you can just throw them on layer feed and leave em there and thats that or what. What are some of you're systems? I over think certain things alot and am probably doing so now lol just curious as to what some of you do.
