I have to purchase more feed today -- My hens are 14 weeks and 12 weeks old. Will it harm them if I switch to layer ration too early?

Okay -- I just came from the Tractor Supply -- the guy there said that the grower and the layer ration was almost the same. The protine in the layer was only 1% less than the grower. We shall see!

I asked this same question a while back. Everyone seemed pretty clear on the fact you shouldn't give layer before they are ready to lay. That left me at wits end because I have a mixed age flock and couldn't really seperate the feed. My fix, I bought a feed called "flock raiser" that's supposed to be for both and used the oyster shell free choice to supplement the calcium. Seems to be working for now.

Good advice faykoko. I was wondering the same thing. I just switched to Flock Raiser too, mainly because I wanted them off the medicated feed for a while before they started laying.
