All the threads I've found go the other way!

When I bought my chicks from a feed store in another city, they said they were being fed non-medicated starter, so I bought non-medicated Purina crumbles to keep them on the same thing. After having them awhile, I've decided that I would prefer to have them on medicated. All my local feed store had was non-Purina medicated mash, so I bought some of that but haven't fed it yet.

Am I setting myself up for disaster? My chickies are 16 days old today.

I can't think of any reason why it would be a problem. You could try mixing the 2 foods together to get them used to the change in diet, if you're worried about it. Maybe someone else will chime in soon.

With a batch a year or so ago, I started with non. When they finished that bag, they were 4 weeks old and I switched them to medicated. At six weeks, they were outside in the dirt and so forth, so I was glad they had it in their system. That was the only bag I fed, from 4-8 weeks. I believe those are the critical weeks, personally, as it is the time they move from the safety of the brooder to the barn and yard.

There should be no problems going on medicated. You can probably sleep a little easier but it will not effect your birds in any bad way, they will just keep eating their feed and be none the wiser.
