I have 2 silkie hens that were with my old rooster, I sold him a little over 1 month ago. I just got a new black silkie rooster, that put with them. He is mature, so he knows what to do. Can I be sure at this point that any eggs that they lay will have been fathered by the new rooster? Both girls started laying a week ago.

I believe that a hen can stay fertile for up to 3 weeks after mating.

Yep, at this point I'd feel very confident that the new guy would be the babies daddy. I wait about a month when I swap roosters.

Cool! That makes me very happy! I just gave the coop a thorough cleaning and I trimmed everybody's bums, so they should have no problems mating! I am well on my way to producing some nice paint chicks!

Thanks for the help!
