Our surviving hen has a swollen right side breast...it's like when the rooster would puff up but only seems to be one side......

Can someone tell me what this means....

I didn't notice it till the evening....it seems like it just happened....

We just got another to keep her company.....

Could it be a full stomach?....

I guess I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop....

My name is Dennis and I'm a real newbee when it comes to chickens

Mr.Dad, yep I agree it's just a full crop. They hang down on the side of the breast. We laughed at one of our free range hens today, cause her crop was so full she was walking lopsided trying to carry all the food she found today!

She seems fine...in fact she's now laying everyday instead of every other

.....

Which leads me to another newbee question....

I've been saving her eggs the last week and a half or so in our fridge......

At first I discarded them because I didn't know her history but she's been here long enough now that I know what she's been eating etc....

Should I was the eggs before putting them in our fridge?..or is washing them before cooking them the ideal way...what do I wash them with?

With having just one hen laying right now is saving them up for two weeks or so ok?

If you think about it, which I try not to, how old are the eggs in the store before we get to them? Keeping fresh eggs for a week (or more, even) we still get higher quality, perhaps, than those at the grocery store, in my opinion.
