Hi all,

I am experienced with chickens but have no idea what is going on here and am hoping for someone to recognize these bizzare symptoms, Chicken appeared fine yesterday morning/afternoon, locked in last night and noticed she had a swollen crop, assumed sour crop so isolated her, ACD in water, no food, oil of oregano, usual massage football style, seemed stable when I left her last night. This morning her neck and head are puffy, foam pouring out eyes and mouth, sticky saliva almost like mucous, she stands fine, eyes bright, seems to be having issues breathing due to foam/mucous and distended crop, almost looks like an anaphylactic attack, could this still be sour crop or something more? Will get a photo and post it asap.

Thanks
Fawn

Hi @DustyCoyote :frow Welcome To BYC

I'm so sorry that no one has replied to your post. How is your hen?
If you have photos those may be helpful.

Is your hen able to poop?
Has the crop emptied any since your last post?

Did you dilute the oil of oregano with a carrier oil or give it to her straight?

How is this girl? I would first suspect an allergic reaction, as you already suggested. I believe a one-time dose of children’s Benadryl can be administered, but I don’t know the dosing off hand. How much does she weigh? Could she have been bitten by an insect that could trigger this reaction?

Welcome to BYC. How is your chicken doing at this time? Can you post any pictures of the chicken and the face? Putting your location in your profile can help us give better advice. An allergic reaction might be a possibility, but there could have been an onset of a severe respiratory disease. The pictures would be most helpful.
