swollen crop - - is it impacted? ?

So today is Day 10 . . . . and her crop is totally flat again. . .
Yesterday she dined on our dinner peas, macaroni and cheese, and baked ham. All of it diced real small. She seemed very happy.
Her belly was still normal this morning. I offered her some plain chick started this afternoon Tonight grren beans, spinach and macaroni and cheese - - -All diced very small again.

I'll see how see does tomorrow and offer her some more chick starter. I rushed her back to normal food too fast last time - - - - so mush is still the word for the girl. At least she doesn't look like she needs a bra for the Double D's she was sporting when all this started !

That's good news, math ace. Thanks for the update. Keep up the good work. Whatever you are doing must be working.

So glad to have found this thread! My RIR has a very distended crop. I have drained quite a bit of fluid from it by holding her upside down and massaging her crop. There still feels to be some hard matter so I'm going to keep her inside and try to get things figured out. Right now she's in a box in our bathroom with acv water and cultured yogurt mixed with a bit of olive oil. Maybe I should just go directly to the cat food, lol! Sounds like that was really a turning point for you!

She is still with us, but still has crop issues. She must have a paratial blockage still. It has been 2 months since the troubles first started.

I returned her to a younger flock and put her on chick starter with them. She got along fine with them and I still make sure she gets things like unsweetened applesauce for treats.

I recently talk to someone who took theirs to a vet and had the crop surgery done. Within 48 hours the bird was doing much better.
The surgery ran around $250. . . So, incase you are wondering what the surgery option might run you . . . this is an idea.

Thanks for all the info! One question- did you keep your chicken indoors the whole time you were treating her or did you let her outside in a separate pen during the day?

Someone else has posted that their surgery was $50. Go figure. Guess it depends on the vet.

If you've got a hard mass, it could be something that will never break up or something large that she has eaten. That's a hard one to figure out. Perhaps, with a feeding tube, you could inject 20-30 cc of oil (about 2 TBSP) and then try to gently massage to break it up.
