I have a 1yr hen who suddenly started showing eye issues on Sunday morning. Her right eye is very swollen (pea sized) and had a lot of drainage that crusted over around her eye and into her nearby feathers. I immediately used warm compresses, saline and gentian violet on it and put her in sick bay. I also rinsed the gentian violet through her nostrils--beak down. Monday night there was almost no crusty drainage and her eye was a little bit less swollen. I again used warm compresses and a bit of light yellow and clear liquid came out. I was also able to get some white-ish solid chunks to come out. I looked inside her mouth and there is no puss on the roof of her mouth. There is still no odor as of this morning (Tuesday).
I have read about Coryza and although there are a few similarities they aren't totally the same.
We haven't added any new chickens to our flock in over 4 months and have a total of 10 in our backyard flock. They live in a 10'x20' shaded run mostly with many hours of free ranging on weekends and usually 1-2hrs on week days. Feeding fermented feed with fruit and veggie scraps as available.
I would appreciate any and all ideas
