My little girl is not herself today. I noticed she was laying down more than usually and her butt is pulsing. She finally got up to drink and I noticed she looked swollen. She doesn’t like to be held but I was able to grab her and put her in a warm tub of water. I thought she could be egg bound but I read if she is pooping she couldn’t be egg bound. And she has popped a few times in the water. Can anyone help with what this could be.

Do you have any calcium gluconate? it is the best there is for getting a egg moving and if her vent is pulsing it sounds to me like she is trying to lay. Do you have any type of calcium at all even tums can work in a pinch if she is drinking,

I do not have calcium gluconate but do have a tums I can try. She is drink and she is also eating her peas. She isn’t lethargic but I can tell she is in pain and isn’t herself.

Crush the tums and put it over peas, or in her water just enough water so she gets all the tums. If at all possible I would get the calcium gluconate TSC usually has it.

Ok thank you, I will have to just stick with the tums as I live in rural New Zealand and do not have access to that calcium gluconate. I did look online at our local feed store but the closest thing I could find was an injection for cattle.

You can use it just give it orally Get a small 1 ml syringe without a needle and give it to her
can you post a picture of what the feed store has?

How is she this morning. Another thing to consider is she maybe trying to lay a soft shell they seem to take a long time coming out.

I just took her to the vet because she still hasn’t laid and she seemed in pain again this morning. She is still eating and drinking and walking around. Unfortunately we do not have an avian vet so they didn’t know too much about ducks but was able to feel around and couldn’t feel an egg. She felt a small mass and inflamed tissue. There was no fluid as she tried to drain that but there was nothing. At this point they said there isn’t anything we can do. If something is in there she couldn’t feel it and most likely it won’t pass.

Didn’t even give an antibiotic in case of infection? If not I’d call and ask for one.
No they didn’t but I will call today and see if I can get some. I wasn’t very happy with this vet especially since her first response was to put her down. But she is still eating, drinking and acting normal. It’s only in the morning I find her laying down and breathing heavy but after an hour or so she is up walking around. And her back side still looks large to me.
