Don't rule out snake bite. Look for 4 teeth marks. If it's a snake, yes she's in pain and will be a couple of days. A small cortisone shot to ease the pain would be called for if she were a cat, don't know about ducks.

Would that cause her vent to pulse like she is trying to lay and egg? I have no idea that is why I am asking.

Not that up on duck 1st aid. Could swelling and burning pain cause her vent to pulse? My expertise is with cats, they get snake bites often. They pant, swell, and obviously suffer. Oh, and a baby snake is no less venomous than adults, more potent venom.

Thanks for that but I can 100% rule that out as I live in New Zealand and we do not have any snakes.

It’s a pretty remote volcanic island. Birds are really the only native thing here, though a lot of pests have been introduced. The biggest threats to our ducks are hawks and cats. Though we find neither goes for our full grown ducks.

It is actually a great place to own ducks. The area we live we get a lot of rain which they love, the summer never gets over 85 degrees and winter very rarely gets below freezing and never snows. There are only a couple predators to worry about and we always have very green grass.

Crazy, now that you mention it, I've heard that at some point in my life. Wow, I can't wrap my mind around not having snakes. My wife has me leave alone the 4 ft and the 5 ft snakes that visit our porch several times a week. I have to carry my cats out and, in the door, as they've been spoked by the snakes hanging out under the

steps. She calls this one "Angus."

"Thank you, we will be picking up antibiotics from the vet. I had to order the calcium from online. Unfortunately there was no where I can go and buy the calcium I need. I’m just hoping we are not too late getting her all these things."

KeeleyDucks I'm trusting that this thread will return to your 'lil girl duck' and her needs. The fact there's no mass indicating an egg is baffling. There's been worthy advice and you're giving her loving attention. I sure hope she gets back to healthy and ya'll share a long and enriched friendship. I'll be checking this thread to follow her progress.

We have big ones too and unless they are after a duckling or chick I leave them alone they will take care of the copper heads which I don't want. But I can't say I have named any other than we do call them Big Blackie. I do get them out of our coops though they will try and eat a 6 week old pullet and all it did was suffocate it. This one must have liked the welcome sign.

I do like snakes, but I used to live in Texas so I was used to trying to avoid venomous ones. Kind of happy I don’t have to do that any more. Thank you, she seems to still be happy, she is getting both antibiotics and anti inflammatory/pain meds in her.
