My hen has a very swollen eye. Any thoughts on the cause?? She’s behaving normally and doesn’t have any other respiratory symptoms. Flushed with saline. Do I have to have a prescription to do antibiotics?? Please advise!! We’ve had backyard chickens for almost 5 years and never run into this. She is 1 of 5 new hens we have had for about 3.5 months. None of the others have symptoms.

You can get terramycin eye ointment without a prescription. Some Tractor Supply stores and other feed stores carry it, this is one online source:

You can also use plain neosporin if you can't get the terramycin (terramycin would be my first choice). Apply 2-3 times a day.
Did you quarantine the new hens when you brought them in? The other eye looks like it might have some swelling as well. Hopefully the ointment will help clear it up, but I would continue to watch for any other symptoms that might show up, just in case it is something respiratory.
