I just got my order of 10 baby chicks from mypetchicken.they were all fine and healthy but I didnt notice that my polish chicks had a swollen red and kinda purple foot.I dont know what to do so any advise would be appreciated.thx

Is it possible for you to post a picture? It would help a lot with diagnosis.

Is the entire foot swollen, or just a toe? Does her leg and foot feel very feverish? If so, it could be an infection. Is she limping or otherwise acting like its hurting her?

I'd also keep an eye on her to make sure the other chicks are not pecking at her foot and making it worse. If so, you'll need to isolate her.

Congrats on the new chicks!

well she is not being pecked and its mainly her ankle/middle of foot.I put chopped up boiled egg in the brooder and she ate most of it

.I cant post a pic becouse my camera broke.

Check the bottom of the foot, and make sure there are no splinters of some sort, or injury under there. If the bottom is swollen, then that may be where the injury is, called Bumble foot. It would have to be cleaned out, and apply a topical antibiotic ointment. If not, maybe it got trampled on by the others. If that's the case, just try to keep it quiet, maybe move it to another cage with one other chick. It will heal on it's own. Give a good diet.

we had a similar case and found out it was bumble foot I will have to wait and see when the wife gets home to see what she did. I think she used a shot to get some of the puss out. Will see and get back to you!

Ok I checked the bottom of the foot and there are no splinters or anything its just a lil red.But the real sad thing is is that one of my lakenvelder chicks was peeping so LOUD I checked her out and didnt see anyhting wrong with her when I woke up she was still cheeping loudly but nothin changed just now though I found her dead lying on the floor all trampled.
