Swollen head. Abscess?

She's still enjoying life - roaming round the garden, flapping her wings, eating well, generally bright and alert.
We've established a routine now whereby she spends the days in her half of the run, having supervised time out roaming with my other hen who was pecking the swelling and adding to the problem by causing wounds. The two of them spend these cold winter nights in the kitchen inside in their own boxes.
Unfortunately the swelling is getting larger. I don't think it will be long before her quality of life deteriorates.

I’m glad she’s doing good right now. I’m so sorry she’s not getting better.

I’m so sorry, I wish things were going in the opposite direction for her.

Latest update: I decided that there was nothing to be lost in asking the help of a neighbour who is confident using a scalpel. She made a couple incisions. Some blood came out, but not a lot. No pus.

The swelling is getting bigger by the day and it is quite smelly. The swollen comb is attracting pecks from my other hen even through the grille.
The prognosis doesn't look good.

I’m so very sorry to hear that. Did she cut into the scabbed area by chance?
