Hello everybody, I have a hen that was severely picked on two days ago. I found her on the ground in the coop, her tail feathers mostly pulled out and she was picked on pretty good. I took her into the house and placed her separated in a box with fresh food and water. She was very lethargic and somewhat still is. She drinks water when I offer it to her but she won't eat. After I checked her out I saw that her bum is all red and swollen (size of a softball). I immediately thought egg binding. Her buttom was hard to the touch. Gave her a lukewarm bath, sat her with a fresh towel on my lap with a heating pillow (on low) and massaged her bum every so lightly with oil. Also gave her a crushed tums mixed with vegetable oil (don't have olive oil right now and nearest town is over 40 miles away). She was a little more alert after all that and even clucked a couple of times but still won't eat. I checked if there is an egg that is bound up but I couldn't feel anything. Her poop was kind of creamy with a light green and white to it. She doesn't poop much and she hasn't layed an egg either.
Does anyone has any idea what this could be? Her bottom is nearly bear, only a couple of feathers left but very much hard swollen and super red.

Do you have a picture of her or her bottom? Have you inserted a clean finger into her vent to feel for a stuck egg? How old is she, and has she been laying recently? Can you feel of her crop and tell us if it is empty and flat, full, hard, doughy, or puffy soft? Then feel of it again in early morning before she has eaten or drunk anything all night long. Poop pictures are also welcome. Wet chicken feed and scrambled egg or tuna are some foods to tempt her to eat. Fluids are most important, and electrolytes or sugar water may be helpful.

Trying to upload pictures. We are waaay out in the county and it's a little difficult at times.
I did give her electrolytes with vitamins. I will try the tuna idea and see if she wants to eat. Her crop is empty and I really can feel her breast bones. On the age, I don't know. She was given to us in October along with a bunch of other chickens, also not sure if she was laying eggs since bunch of the hens are sharing nesting boxes (I have plenty but it seems they all prefer the same ones).

Poor girl. You are doing your best to make her comfortable, though.

I was trying to see if she had mites as that could cause a bare & irritated bum.

One of my hens had a similar scenario, for some reason no one liked her, she was being pecked & bullied, kept away from feed. So her poo wasn't right as she wasn't eating, & being traumatized she didn't want to eat at 1st. I sat her on my lap & fed her, feed, 30 live mealworms, scrambled eggs, cantaloupe & fresh chickweed. I did that every day for a week & she was set up in a large cage in my bathroom. She sure got her appetite back by day 2. She luckily was not ill, just bullied, so I really don't know if yours is a similar scenario. Sometimes a hen doesn't feel well cuz she's been getting bullied...sometimes a hen doesn't feel well then starts getting bullied...so need to figure out why she doesn't feel well.

I ended up moving her to a nicer group, of older hens & she is still with them 2 yrs later, doing fine. No one bullies or plucks her bum feathers anymore.

The day I moved her, I also looked her over, I couldn't find mites, but I washed her gently in the tub, with mild soap & warm water, dried her on low with dryer as she sat on a cushy towel (she Loved it & began preening herself) & I rubbed some Hen Saver cream on her sore bum.

I hope you can figure out what's going on. Good luck!
