I noticed one of our flock, Buttercup, has an issue: One of her eyes is sort of swollen/shut and there is a clear mucus-like discharge from the eye that includes small bubbles. She also has a clear discharge from from her nasal cavities, but it seems like there's more discharge on the side of the affected eye.

It seems kind of bad, so I isolated her from the rest of the flock and put a little neosporin on the eye. I want to say the underside of her wings look kind of messy too, but I might have just got it wet cleaning the eye with a water syringe.

She's not coughing.

I checked her butt and it seems clean. I'm not sure what kind of poop she's having...

Has anyone encountered this before? I've googled, but multiple things come up.

Yes. It looks and sounds like MG. The reason why the underside of her wings look messy is because she has been tucking her head under her wing to clear the discharge from her eye, probably at night when she sleeps.
Keep her isolated away from other birds and practice strict biosecurity. If you handle your sick bird, then go handle your other birds, you will infect them, clothing as well.

Even if you use antibiotics, she will be a carrier for life and will spread the disease to other birds.

Thank you! 2 of 7 hens have symptoms now. I'm just going to assume they're all infected at this point. I'm going to get some Tylan 50 as well. Thank you for the advice, dawg53, eggcessive

Is there a bad odor around the faces of the affected birds? Coryza is another respiratory disease that could cause more severe symptoms and a bad odor. It can be treated with a combo of Tylan50 and a sulfa antibiotic, such as sulfadimethoxine and SMZ-TMP. In this article you can read and compare mycoplasma gallisepticum and infectious coryza:

I just gave all 7 hens some Tylan 200 (0.5-1.0cc as another member here had tried -- no 50 in stock). The bird's faces smell OK, I think, but just in case, I've ordered some SMZ-TMP - thank you very much for the link! I hope they can hang in there until it arrives in the mail tomorrow.

The Tylan 200 is 4 times stronger than the 50–200mg per ml versus 50 mg per ml. Dosage is much less in volume of course. I would give a 5 pound bird 1/4 ml of Tylan 200. Give 1/8 ml to a 2 1/2 pound bird, and 1/10th ml for a chick or bantam. It can be give 2-3 times daily by mouth.

Hi, After 2 doses of the Tylan 200 (including one initial, accidental, mega-dose) and one dose of Sulfa Bird to the water, Buttercup's eyes have cleared up and there's no longer a discharge from the nasal area. Will make sure to got the full course of 5 days though, and for all the hens.
