And this is an even Older reply but, for anyone on the hunt for mysterious answers to neck probs like myself that comes across this, the crop is nowhere near what this pic shows. Plz do not go shaking your chickens upside down willy nilly, for numerous reasons.

I have had chickens with the condition (sour crop), and the solution is to get some milk, oil, and vinegar, mix it well, and use a syringe without the needle and spurt a few full doses down her throat and massage it until it fell soft, do this until the problem goes away. The problem you mentioned is not normal. I have a hen with that issue, and I have not found a solution yet.
