Came home from vacation and my Mama's face was swollen to the point her eye on one side was closed. She was kind of lethargic but still drinking and walking around. Found a black widow in the nest boxes, killed it but could be that. They are outside but caged in a huge 20x20 space. Other ladies are fine. Cooled her down (In southern AZ and it's been hot) and did the wait and see bit. That was Wednesday this week.

Thursday morning...worse, not standing or moving, thought she was dead. But she was breathing. Gave her .5 ml children's benedryl, within the hour she was swallowing the water I put on her mouth. But still wouldn't hold head up or stand.

Kept up with water and benedryl through to tonight and she's better! Swelling gone. Fighting me completely and biting me when I try to give meds and water. But seems lethargic and out of energy. Still can't stand for more than a second or two. Holds her head up for a few seconds then lays head back down. What's the next step? How can I give her some energy if she won't take food but will take water/liquid? Will only drink out of bowl once or twice. Forcing her to drink since she is get dehydrated.

Any advice GREATLY appreciated!

ps pictures show from day one when we got home. & mama is a red/gold sexlink, year and a half old.

Thanks! Glad I found this place! Lots of information!!!

If she's swallowing is tube necessary? I did see on a video they have a liquid parrot food, and then the liquid vitamins, could I just do that with syringe without tube? Today she's drinking more, but again lethargic. Just trying to help her.

If you feel comfy getting water in her the way your are then by all means keep doing it.
Do it often and I would also pick up some Nutri Drench that can be placed right in the mouth too.
(ND=Vitamins)
I would also add electrolytes to the water you are giving her, it will help her perk up faster.

That's my concern with the tube! Glad I'm not the only one! The syringe I use is my daughters old baby medicine one so it's short. So I'm basically dripping in her mouth and not down her throat. Then her tongue works and she swallows.

watch that video I just sent the link too.
Make sure you are putting the water with the syringe in the correct place too.
