Sad to say, the Guinea fowl died this morning on the way to the Veterinary Doctor. It is still there as they are running tests on it at the veterinary lab.
I don't know yet if it is Bird flu but it sure did have tapeworm although it was dewormed earlier this month with Ivermectin.
3 of my turkeys have also dropped dead suddenly in 2 days. Two turkeys suddenly died overnight without showing any symptoms. One guinea fowl also died this morning while I was trying to get the dead turkeys to the vet.
Still waiting for the results.

Also my turkeys and guinea fowl have gone off feed since Monday. Some of the turkeys are huddled up with wings dragging down. None of them have an appetite although they are running around as much as they can.

Hi Helen I’m so sorry you lost your guinea. Did you find out what was wrong? Or have you got the vet results? I have what looks to be the same issue. One, maybe two, of my Guineas seem to have swollen necks. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

cld be totally diff given the op was in Nigeria. This time of year, a guinea might find itself entangled w/a hungry, cold, testy hornet. I've watched mine eat wasps, bumbles, etc over the summer, and we've all seen someone stung inside the mouth while drinking from a soda can.
I'm just not sure why multiple of the ops wld be stung or died unless there was a nest (+/- 20 hornet stings can kill us, allergic or not) or Nigeria has a species we do not.

@R2elk - so..the floppy things on the side of the face are wattles but the floppy skin on the neck is waddle, too?

How very sad:( Op hasn’t been on in over a year, but if she comes back I hope she’ll update with what the vet said.

I think my pup was stung back in August. Poor things face swelled up pretty bad before I realized he was having a reaction to something.
I gave him Benadryl. Does anyone know if poultry can be given Benadryl for swelling like that? 🤔

Hello. Sorry for the long silence. Things were pretty crazy on the farm then. The guineas and turkeys died of fowl cholera caused by rats(can't remember the second diagnosis now although I have the lab report). I lost 40 adult turkeys and my entire guinea fowl flock within a week. It was a hard reset for me and I had to take some time off to mourn that loss. In any case, I learnt lessons the hard way.
I have more guineas now and they are doing fine.

Oh wow, I’m so sorry! I hope your new flock is free of this deadly disease. I had to look it up to remind myself of the disease…
