I hear this sometimes occurs in the wild, but does anyone have any first or second hand knowledge of these rare hybrids?

Not me but I’ve come across pictures. Most are sterile, or assumed to be sterile, there was one in Britain who reportedly had babies of her own with her mute swan mate, though who knows if those are hers or not.

Still, who knows if they really are all sterile, maybe it’s just assumed and no be actually ever questioned and studied it? I couldn’t even tell you how many chromosomes a swan has, there just isn’t a lot of information out there.
