Okay, so I'm madly in love with my rooster. And he's always been super sweet. But he's still not quite a year old. He's been a little bit more of a bully lately. Not too bad and never towards me because I take care of them. Until today. He's still not anywhere near as vicious as I've seen. I grew up with one we named Foghorn and he was a bantam so he could get up in your face. Abe is just going for a mediocre attack towards the legs occasionally. I do not want to do anything with his Spurs because I want him to be able to protect the hens. I'm a country girl. To me when he runs up to me like that first thing I do is snatch him up and hold him and pet him and make him like it till he chills. But I would not say that's the case for my entire family lol that being said, I am a dog groomer and have nail clippers a Dremel as well as quick stop. If it becomes a problem I will smooth those spikes out. Has anyone done this on a rooster before? How far back is the quick? He's young so they're not much more than an inch long right now. Does it tend to run the length or is it closer to the leg?

I have no experience with trimming spurs. And, I have to admit I do not love my Bantam rooster -- a total jerk that I often have to pick up and carry around with me until he calms down. But Billy Boy takes care of his hens, so I put up with his antics. Sylrooster is lucky that you love him!

Your young rooster MAY calm down a bit as he matures. Billy was practically a maniac his first year and has mellowed (a bit) with age.

In the meantime, I hope someone can answer your question. Best wishes with your boy!
