Uhhhh, you DO know where government gets it's money, right?
David , unfortunatly a lot of people don't. My income taxes weren't much this year, but it amounted to two Social Security checks. I actually don't mind paying taxes, because I feel every American should have a hand in supporting their Government, as opposed to the Government supporting them. The EIC is the greatest ripoff to the taxpaying citizen in my opinion ever. This thought did occour to me this AM. If the top 1% of the population is paying 50%+ of the taxes, perhaps we should let let them run at least 50% of the country.
Hallelujah, I see the light! Well said, Gary.
If you recall from the Pledge of Allegiance, America is a Republic, "I pledge allegiance... to the Republic for which it stands," etc.
In a Republic, the member states are free to pursue those ends which are profitable and beneficial to them. Whats good for Maine may not be what's right for California, for example. In the main, this still occurs.
In turn, the government supports that and makes it possible for them to prosper by providing services, structure and a central forum for them all to come together to mutual benefit. The states, for their part, maintain those government functions with their taxes. In case you didnt know it, this all originated with the Greek model of the city-state.
Think of a wagon wheel, where the hub is the government and the spokes and rim are the states. Neither by themselves are much good, but the hub is there only to provide support for the spokes/rim to do the work of moving forward.

However, what has happened since compulsory wage taxation is the opposite. The government takes from it's members in ever increasing amounts and redistributes as it sees fit, without approval except that of it's own.
This is why the TEA parties have sprung up... some people are still aware enough to see this bastardization of the original intent that founded this nation.
