I live in a community, as most folks do - and I am a part of that community. I could choose to be Apart from it, but I choose to work with my neighbors to get the job done, we trade goods, we help each other out.
The govt. doesn't tell me I have to do this.
My neighbors and I do not always hold the same views on politics, religion, or many other issues - but we respect each other to hold those opinions in a civil manner.
All without babysitters telling us how to act - imagine that.
Just because we all have differing views and are pursuing our own happiness doesn't make us at odds with each other.
It is called Live and Let Live.
We take care of those who are on hard times - without govt. assistance or prompting.
When someone's house burns down, we pool together, gather goods, take donations, maybe have an auction to get more money, and give it to those people who lost everything they own.
When Joe the Farmer squanders his time and money and loses his farm, we sympathize with him, but realize it was a lot of his own doing - that is called common sense. There are very few "Farmer Joes" where I live.
It was different when I lived in the city - all those people and it was hard to find a "community" anywhere. Those folks did not feel empowered because they had money, house, cars given to them. They were happy to live the way they were because it took very little effort on their part. They also were pretty darn slow to share their easily come by money and house and cars.
It is a difference in Attitude - and attitude is everything.

If he gets the economy going again and starts balancing the budget the pubs won't see office again for many years. We'll just have to wait and see.

There is a difference in taking care of innocent children who have no choice and taking care of their parents who have no ethics.
I totally support the sink or swim philosophy. Just don't let those sinkers keep raising their kids to be the same parasites they are. Look at Social Security. I don't think its insolvency is do to retirees collecting benefits. It was originally written so that the truly handicapped (adults and children) could also be assisted. That is so warped now. The intent was to help people so extremely handicapped that there was no way they could work, or children so handicapped that they were bedridden or needed exceptional and constant care. I know people that get SS checks just because they took their kid to enough doctors to get the kid declared ADHD or with other mild learning disorders. I know a guy that destroyed his body with illegal drugs and obesity that now gets disability. I know darn well he could work, but he won't. My own sister has a high functioning autistic son that spends his day in school (and he will probably be a more productive member of society than she is) that she collects for. He's different, BUT THAT IS NOT NECESSARILY A HANDICAP!! Her younger son is normal, but she had him evaluated by enough people to get him declared learning disabled. She is trying to get a check for him too. She is only doing it so she can continue to not work. That was not the intent of the system. We need to get rid of the deadbeats! I am so tired of paying taxes and carrying around the dead weight. It disgusts me! If we could get rid of the dead weight, SS would be much better off. OK the rant is over.

you mean I could be getting a check for my son who is LD and Dyslexic? wow, and all I got him was a tutor and told/helped him to work harder/differently to get past it - silly me.
eta - this child graduated last year and is going on to college this fall.

What is it about legally assembly that is constitutionally protected that bothers "you people". The right of assembly has been utilized for civil rights, abortion, anti war, woman's voting rights, prohibition, many many more issues some good some bad. It doesn't matter whether "you people" won or lost, it is a constitutional right. And nobody should be labeled a extremist or "you people" or a reptile for expressing their rights.
