Table scraps

Yeah, when we make soup with a roasted chicken carcasses, I give the bones/scraps to the flock, which they love.

If anyone expresses concerns about cannibalism, I just say “it’s OK, they didn’t know that guy”!
My chickens through the years have always looked forward to Thanksgiving for the turkey carcasses that they get.

I brought Thanksgiving turkey carcass to my chickens last year because we go to a family dinner at my parents but they always throw away the dark meat and carcass (my mom dislikes dark meat)... My chickens absolutely loved it! So did my dogs. They got green bean casserole, stuffing, mashed potatoes... They were happy for a few days with Thanksgiving scraps

Absolutely! I’ve even taken home OTHER people’s turkey carcasses for this (my wife usually shakes her head).

If I cook the broth long enough, the bones get soft enough that they eat them too!
I'm taking everyone's pumpkins from Halloween to give to my chickens and ducks... We are also carving pumpkins on Halloween day and I am going to take the seeds and cook them in the oven then put them in my chicken's feed.

Our Cub Scout pack does a turkey dinner as our primary fund raiser for the year.

My son (at, a “wolf” this year) sets up a food waste station and sorts the trash and food waste. Last year, the flock got probably 3 five gallon buckets of scraps.

There are so many uses for scraps that people throw away, it is unbelievable the useful food that people throw away that they could be giving to their flock.

Oh wow! Your son is very smart! He's helping on the trash issue this world has!

You folks make feel better as sometimes I thought I was the only food scrap wacko. My Mom use to save me her food scraps for a couple of weeks in her refrigerator for my chickens. They would get excited when I came toward their lots with those plastic grocery bags in my hands.

We go to my parents on Saturday for family dinner and my mom always gives us scraps. Usually it's lettuce, sandwich meat, leftovers from the week, and bread. My chickens come running to the fence when they see our car coming back from family dinner on Saturday

Sunday morning my husband cooks everyone breakfast that includes our furry animals and our feathered animals... Everyone usually gets pancakes, eggs, sausage, and bacon. We maybe weird to some people, but other people absolutely love us for how we treat our animals.
