Tacky Coop and Run Contest 2011: Winners Announced!

Well after the winds broke my PVC tractor I had to make a temporary shelter for my girls out of an old dog kennel. Couldn't use the doghouse because it's the well house and too heavy to lift for eggs and cleaning.

This is a wooden spool that we got for free from the phone company turned into a temporary coop (currently unoccupied). It sits in front of an old playhouse that was on the property when we moved in. We poultry wired the windows, used a pallet for a door, and then cardboarded another window that broke. Plus there's the dog house that I want DH to turn into a coop for bantams. We had to replace the roof on it, and had an old sign from a church that our neighbors used to run. It's the Dogs' Chapel of Life now. The chickens also love it and hang out in there during the day, too. Too bad the roof has become the pinewood derby car painting garage...

I had to add a picture of my good coop too. It's not as gorgeous as some others. It's constructed from pallets, with 1/4" plywood for siding. I have to really stoop to go inside because it's only 4' high, and you should see my 6'4" hubby try to go inside! But the girls seem happy.

I was at Lowes the other day and they had one of those spools with a "Free" sign taped on it but I resisted the urge. We had a few of those when I was a kid. My dad would cut a hole in the center so they could go inside the center.
