Tags on Baby Chicks??

How do I get those metal tags off baby chicks that were put on them when I purchased them from our local store?

I thought they'd slide right off, but they are metal and I am afraid I'll hurt my chicks! I'm new to this, so any suggestions will help!

I know this might be 7 years late to answer, but we just purchased four baby pullets with metal tags pieced on their wings. I wanted to answer this in case anyone else has the same problem.

It took both my husband and me to remove the tag. I held the chick and he removed the tag. You have to bend the small piece at the end to get it off. It takes a little force. Then comes the hard part, the person removing the metal tag will have to pull it out from their wing. If you look up a video on how the metal gets attached, then you'll see it's not really harmful. It will be hard and a little painful if it starts to heal.

I think of it as a piercing, once you remove it it will heal by itself. I'll reply later to let everyone know what happened the chicks I removed the tag from. I have them on medicated chicken starter feed so it helps build up their immune system.
