I have 2 road island red roosters and 3 Dominique roosters. Over the past few weeks a few of the roosters lost their tail feathers. After that, the ones without tail feathers quit crowing. It wasn't until the feathers started to come back that they started to crow again. Not sure what might be causing this. Any ideas?

They were moulting, my Brahma boys have lost their tail and a few breast feathers at this time, too.

Some moults are not dramatic, just the primary tail feathers etc, but the birds are 'out of sorts' and don't crow or egg lay for a bit depending on sex.

I doubt it was anything more than this,
