Tail feathers bloody and plucked by other chickens

Thanks for the reply. So I cleaned the wound up the best I could. I had my husband hold her over a basin while I poured fresh water over the are to try to rinse it. I then used betadine and sprayed Vetericyn over it. It was a really uncomfortable for her and she was trying to wriggle away, but we managed to do it. The wound is just as bad as it looked before I rinsed it off. The other chickens plucked most of her tail feathers out, along with some meat/skin.

I then sprayed her with Blu-Kote, and now I’m second guessing my choice. I have her isolated, so I probably didn’t need it yet...but because it sticks so well, I thought it would stay put better than bacitracin. It’s in a spot that cannot easily be wrapped.

So now, I’ve got her isolated in the dog crate, inside. She’s calmed down now that I’ve draped towel over the crate. She has food and water.

what should my next steps be?

I would not use the BluKote anymore until she is ready to go back in with others. BluKote has alcohol and gentian violet and it stings. Stick with the Vetericyn or betadine. The bacitacin or triple antibiotic would be good, and it does not need to be covered. Using a towel in the crate for her bedding would keep it cleaner. Keep food and water near inside the crate during the daytime.

I know this thread is a couple of years old... but how did this chicken do after treatment? I've had the same thing happen today and I'm looking for ideas. Thanks!
