*I am baaack!*
Chapter 21
"A price? What kind of price?" I whispered.
But the hummingbird was silent.
"What are you going on about?" Lilith asked. "And why are you just standing there all pale?"
"Oh- it's nothing."
I looked at her once, and she knew something was up.
"Just keep going." I siad.
"But, Sage, where are we going?"
"Like I said before, we're looking for anyone who'll take us in and heal our spirits."
That one is not very far away...
I froze.
"Hummingbird!" I blurted.
"What?" Lilith turned.
"Oh, nothing. It's just--" I was about to blurt everything.
Don't you dare say a word about me, or I'll kill you, then you'll have to pay the price...
"It's what?" Lilith narrowed her eyes.
"I want to find a home."
"Then what does that have to do with a hummingbird?"
Watch your words Sage. Pick your words carefully. Any spills about me, I'll kill you...
"Hummingbirds represent good luck."
"Then why'd you blurt it out?"
"I just want good luck now."
She didn't say anything.
Why are you suddenly threatening? I thought.
you know about me now. I can be as threatening as I want.
Footsteps.
I froze.
"Well, what are y'all doing out here?" A female human came with a sweet face. "Y'all look like you've been through a lot!"
I told you she wasn't far. But just because you've found a home doesn't mean I'm not gonna make you pay the price. And I'm gonna make sure you don't forget the price...
What's this price?
You'll see... The hummingbird sneered, then faded from my head, leaving me with a sharp pain.
The human carried us inside, and we ate for the first time in around a month.
I think I'd found a home.
