Chapter 10
My blood ran cold.
"Sage! No!" Lilith the dog ran forth to help her mate.
"I can't... walk... with this... bullet..." Suddenly he broke out in a coughing fit, and blood pooled from his jaws and onto the side of the road.
"SAGE???!!!" Lilith the dog screeched. "You're sick, very sick!" Lilith The Dog began to cry desperately. Then she began to sing.
Oh, I was walkin'
Then there was cryin'
Then I felt those tears comin'
down... down...
And all my skies turned grey,
and then I had this chain wrapped 'round my heart...
Oh, can anyone help this lonely one?
With the blood from his jaws...
Oh, can anyone save him...
Her magnificent voice carried on the wind and flew with the eagles.
Then, poor, poor Lilith began to howl. Oh, how lonely her howling sounded. I could almost feel her sadness.
"Lilith. Come. He walks with the Lord now." Lilith said, calmly. "He's not in any pain anymore."
"He might not be in pain, but I am."
"You won't be for long." I said.
And we walked off. But somewhere deep inside me, I knew nothing would be the same again.
