Take a look a this WEIRD Purina SunFresh Egg

I doubt the feed had anything to do with the egg. They just happen sometimes.

The feed had nothing to do with it. Occasionally an egg will move slower than normal through the canal as the shell is being formed and you will get eggs like the one you are holding. Don't be surprised if you don't find it more now, it seems once a hen starts this it can occur more than once.

i agree the feed had little to do with the egg. I feed my hens purina layena pellets as well b/c it is readily available. I get an occasional wierd egg, but never softies. I think its just the development of the egg inside the hen, and sometimes things go wierd. b4 i changed feed to the purina, I still got the occasional wierd one. Maybe once every 6 weeks one of my girls lays something a tad mis shapen or bumpy

lol i know this guy's, just thought it was funny to have the shape of a sun right on the egg after i switched to purina

i used to have a hen who was sick and she laid eggs that looked just like that, when we culled her, those eggs stopped, and we haven't had one since

I've heard that a flat-sided egg is caused by a hen flying off the roost and crash landing. I don't know how much truth is in that because I've never witnessed it.

The truth in that comes from the fact that the bird would have been stressed from such an occurrence. I still say these are stress eggs.

it's a stress egg. This happens when the egg is in the shell gland (near the end of the oviduct). She either fell or something frightened her and the egg cracked and reshelled.
