Yesterday morning when we went to let our 3 week old chicks out of the coop for the day, there was an eagle perched on one of the fence posts around the run. Waiting for breakfast to be served I guess.

I was planning to let the chicks out on the grass which is enclosed by electric poultry netting.

So I went and bought some crop netting. As I was putting it up the eagle was cruising overhead.

Here's a pic of my setup now. Orange electric poultry netting, green crop net on top. It won't win any fashion shows.

Do you think I'll need the crop net for my hens? The adult-sized cockerels are on pasture now and the birds of prey leave them alone.

I've seen eagles catch and kill snow geese, and others have had problems with eagles killing standard chickens and adult ducks. If hungry enough, they will try your cockerels.
