Take the feed out? Or leave it in?

New to chickens!! Was wondering your preferences on whether or not I should leave my feed in the coop all the time or take it out in the morning and put it back in the evening? What are your thoughts? Thanks!!!

i offer my chickens food at all times, they know when to stop.

I don't put feed in the coop unless it is bitterly cold (2 or 3 days per year) and the chickens won't leave the coop. I don't like the mess or the excess poop just from having them in there for more time. Plus, fewer bugs and flies. I feed in the run.

Welcome to BYC. Actually I do the converse of what you are suggesting. I feed in the AM leaving enough extra that they can eat during the day. I again feed in the evening and then remove all feed so that rodents and predators are not attracted by the smell. Chicks and growing birds are provided feed ad lib.

I feed mine in the run, so they have access to it all the time unless they are in the coop.
