Just asking for info here, I did not mean continually spray. I was just concerned at the absorption potential by the chickens, and frankly other animals as well... One could run through a thousand scenarios of various levels of exposure to animals where it may be harmful regardless of the once dosing. And then where ants are a serious, recurring problem needing repeat treatments? Killing ants of the surface does not mean the labyrinth of tunnels underneath the ground would be affected by spraying on top. Also brings to mind the scenario that would be true for my animal household, in that I have a Rough Collie, Ren, who tested positive for the MDR1 gene and any exposure to ivermectin could potentially be lethal for her. So in this case, say I have a yard with chickens where Ren runs and plays, and this area is overrun with ants. I honestly would never consider using ivermectin as even the remotest chance that this could cause neurological issues or death for Ren. And, all of this coming full circle, I would then also be concerned at the chicken feet absorption potential, not to mention chicken pecking behaviors, etc.
Yes, I'm aware and have used it for chickens as well. I'm giving readers food for thought and considerations for dosing. Giving a chicken ivermectin orally or topically is one thing. Giving a chicken ivermectin orally or topically, and then the chicken is exposed to more ivermectin because of spraying for ants, is another. Who can speak to at what levels of dosing/absorption ivermectin would then be toxic. And, again, exposure to other animals, if applicable.
