Hi all

I have a broody hen that just hatched some chicks and it is November in Nebraska. The hen is a good mother but I'm concerned about them getting cold. Should I take them from her or leave them? She is in a little brooding hut but still worried about the cold. I started a heat lamp but worried the hen week get too warm?

Any advice would be appreciated

Hi!!!

I would leave them with her, so long as she is doing a good job mothering they will be fine, just check on them every once in awhile
chickens have been doing this a lot longer than we have

I have a broody that just hatched 2 and our night are (not as cold as yours) around 27*
i just make sure they have good bedding and clean/fresh food and water

Good Luck!!!

Thank you all. She seems to be doing great so will keep a close eye on her. So excited to be a part of this knowledgeable group

I think the mamma will do a better job than anything else, but if you worry you can always put a heat lamp in and see if they use it. Chances they won't.
